The Chelsea Arts Club is owned by its Members and operated on their behalf as a not for profit mutual. You can read more about how that works here.
All our Members share a passionate belief in the importance of a creative approach to life. For them the Club is a home from home, somewhere to come after a hard day in the studio where they can be sure that they and their guests will receive a warm welcome.
Under the constitution of the Club, two thirds of the Members have to be practising artists – painters, sculptors, designers, photographers, architects; most of the others work in the arts too, as actors, writers, dancers, musicians, curators…

Our home in Old Church Street has been described as a rambling country rectory. There’s a Billiards Room, with a bar and a snooker table; a Dining Room, with its Members’ table at which James Whistler once entertained Monet; and a large secluded garden.
Our kitchens are open seven days a week. A bar menu is offered in the Billiards Room with choices ranging from light food, sandwiches and salads to hearty hot dishes including curries and fish and chips. In the Dining Room there is a set menu, the Artist’s Menu, and a full à la carte menu plus an extensive wine list.
We have ten bedrooms for the use of Members for which booking well in advance is recommended. None are en suite but there are bathrooms and loos located on all corridors and a shower room on the first floor.
We stage over 100 events a year. Our events season runs from September to April and includes film screenings, band nights and artists’ talks, as well as classical concerts and cabarets showcasing the best young talent in addition to household names.
If you would like to perform at the Club yourself, or would like to recommend someone to do so, please contact our Events Director, Sarah Delafield Cook.
Some 45 different exhibitions of Members’ work are held throughout the year. All Members can apply for a solo exhibition and all also have the opportunity to take part in curated group shows and the annual Summer Exhibition.
